# Open Issues

> One view of what is actually broken right now, tracked from open to verified resolution.

Alerts tell you something fired. Issues tell you what is wrong. **Open Issues** is one board of every problem currently affecting production, kept current by Ordyn.

## What an issue is

An issue is a real, measured impact. Ordyn opens one when an investigation finds a query-backed signal that something is wrong, whether that came from an Auto Monitor, an existing alert, or an investigation someone asked for. Alerts that share a cause roll up into one issue.

Each issue has:

* A **title and summary** in plain language, updated as Ordyn learns more.
* **Impact**, measured by a live query against your telemetry, shown as a chart.
* **Episodes**, the windows of time the impact was actually happening.
* **Links** to the alerts, investigations, pull requests, and deploys involved. A PR is marked as having caused the issue or fixed it.
* **Citations.** Hover any claim to see the query snapshot behind it, or click through to run it yourself.

## How issues close

Ordyn keeps watching each open issue and re-runs its impact query on an interval. An issue resolves as:

| Resolution | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Recovered** | The impact signal has stayed healthy through a hold period. Ordyn confirms this, not a human guess. |
| **Expired** | The issue reached its expiration without further activity. |
| **Dismissed** | A person dismissed it. Ordyn will not reopen a dismissed issue on its own. |
| **Superseded** | It was merged into another issue with the same cause. |
| **Invalidated** | Ordyn determined the original signal was not real impact. |

If the impact comes back after recovery, Ordyn reopens the issue rather than opening a new one.

## What you can do

From an issue's page:

* **Dismiss** it.
* **Extend** its expiration.
* **Ask Ordyn to re-check** it now.

Everything else is Ordyn's job. You can search open and resolved issues from the board.
